Disney Dreamlight Valley – Review. A world of magic

Remember back in 2020 when Animal Crossing was released and suddenly everybody seemed to be playing the game? This year, Disney came up with a new experience that could appeal to all the Animal Crossing fans out there, adding all the Disney fans too, and that’s a lot of people. Bringing together all the beloved characters from their movies together in one magical world is no small feat, and they had to be very creative to make it work. Developed by Gameloft, Disney Dreamlight valley could be the game every Disney fan was waiting for. But living up to the magic of the Disney world can be hard for a video game, so is this game any good?

Into the Magic

Disney Dreamlight Valley is pretty much a socializing simulator in which we’ll work together and help our favorite characters from Disney. In this world, you’ll be able to become friends with these characters, and even with the villains, as they can be surprisingly friendly.

When our character –which we’ll customize at the beginning of our adventure– arrives in a dark valley covered in thorns. Once there we meet with Merlin, the wizard, who sees some magic within us, and tells us that we might be able to make the thorns disappear from the valley. Thus helping him bring the magic back to the valley and bring all the beloved inhabitants back.

Aside from the socializing part, we’ll have to help them out by completing different objectives and quests. But this is mostly done through agriculture, crafts, recollection, and a few touches of action here and there. But make no mistake, Disney Dreamlight Valley is mostly a relaxing game that will have you completing routine tasks and interactions. Similar to Animal Crossing New Horizons if instead of Tom Nook you had Scrooge McDuck.

By completing the tasks and missions we are also receiving Dreamlight, which is something like a magical currency. Using the Dreamlight we acquire we’ll be able to remove the thorns and unlock new areas in the valley. Unlocking new areas will bring back the characters, and this will in return also unlock new tasks and missions.

Completing the main missions is also pretty important, but we cannot neglect the routine tasks we have to constantly complete. This can take a whole, and yes, it does get pretty repetitive, so keep that in mind. Even though it is all Disney characters, it’s not all fun and games, as you’ll have to do some tough work to receive all the Dreamlight you’ll need, but is still something really special if you are a Disney fan.

Review: 8.3/10

Disney Dreamlight Valley is a nice game, with a lot of love and effort put into it. The character modeling and all the visuals in the game are nice and clean. Especially with the characters from 3D movies, as they look a lot like they do in their original movies. This is a game you just can’t miss if you’re a Disney fan. But be warned, it IS pretty repetitive.
